Tuesday 22nd December was a joyous day for our club. It was the end of a 4-month journey that started on Saturday 15th August 2020. Mr. Abdalla Mohamed, a 34-year-old amputee of both legs as a result of a motor vehicle accident at Gilgil was introduced to one of our members Lion Joseph for assistance. As usual “where there is a need there is a Lion".
On Saturday 15th August 2020 Lion Joseph & Lion Mary visited Abdalla at his house to assess his condition. After a personal/professional interview, it was found to be a case worth our assistance. The Medical Committee Convenor recommended it to the club which handed it to Lion Joseph who is a member of staff at APDK to begin work on making Abdalla’s prosthetic legs. The total cost was KShs. 140,000.00.
When the prosthetics were ready, Abdalla was called in for a fitting and necessary adjustments were made.
On Tuesday 22nd December 2020, Abdallah was officially presented as a " Walking Man”, no longer a "Crawling Man".
This is what LC of Mombasa Bahari says: Lions impacting others with a smile. "Changing lives, changing community" as
Abdalla can now operate his barber salon effectively, a new skill he had to learn after the accident.
The club also donated to APDK a walker which was kindly given to the Club by our Treasurer Lion Akil to assist in handling young patients.
After the handing over ceremony, the children were given face masks & a Christmas pack.
