On Saturday 7th September 2019, Lions Clubs International District 411A had the honour to host the 2nd Vice International President, Lion Brian Sheehan and his spouse, Lion Lori Sheehan at the Lions Auditorium, Loresho.
The day was a very busy one as there were two programs running concurrently:
New Voices Women's Leadership Symposium at 9.30am at which the Chief Guest was Lion Lori Sheehan.
The other program was a Global Action Team (GAT) Workshop which was conducted by the GAT Area Leader PCC Rajinder 'Pape' Sembi and attended by the 2nd Vice International President Lion Brian Sheehan.
I had the opportunity to attend the New Voices Women's Leadership Symposium together with our Club President, Lion Kamaljeet Kaur, while our own member & Zone Chairperson Lion Linda Shuma attended the GAT Workshop.
The Chief Guest narrated her personal story of how she became a Lion, women in leadership "Mother Teresa" etc. and gave examples of the importance of story telling, kindness to self, finding your passion, the effects of the positive word.
There were 3 other motivational speakers who gave their stories:
* A touching and motivational lady with HIV & Colon cancer,
* A young girl who climbed Mt Kenya and put the Lions Club up the mountain and the National Director of Special Olympics.
The 2nd VP later joined the symposium and to sum it all, he gave his insights with interesting pictorials on Vision - Goals - Action Plan:
* Does your club have any goals, specific number for membership & retention?
* What do you want to accomplish in your year as President or VP or Leader?
* Leadership vs Management:- ways to retain members - 3 favourite words- Attitude, Flexibility, Stuff.
* Attitude is contagious- enthusiasm is the key to a real leader
* Flexibility - if you always do what you have always done then you will always get what you have always gotten.
* Stuff - don't get bogged down with stuff.
