Lions Club of Mombasa Bahari members, spouses and cubs visited the Thamaratul Jannah Orphange Home in Takaungu in Kilifi County on Sunday 1st March 2015.

The home is looking after seventeen boys and girls from the age of two to fifteen years. Together with the home they are running an Islamic School and are also teaching the children on how to grow their own fruits and vegetables.

The members, spouses and cubs were all welcomed with prayers and phases from the holy Koran, after which the founder of the home Ms. Asma welcomed us all and said that they were very delighted to have us visiting them. She took us all for a brief tour of the facilities and also informed us how it has been her desire to look after orphaned children. She said the plot has been given to her free of charge by a person who resides in Yemen who told her to look after it and also run the home. She said he sends her money every month to assist in running it but is not enough.

After a brief acrobatic show by some of the children, the Convenor for Service Activities, Lion Reezvana Yusufali and President, Lion Akil Adamjee said that we as a club are very happy to help such homes and promised to visit them again.

The club donated goody bags, caps and old clothes to all children and foodstuff like beans, cooking oil, maize meal, e.t.c. to the home.

The club also donated twenty fruit trees, which were planted by the children.
