On Sunday 31st March 2019 we had the privilege to visit the women of the Shimo La Tewa Women's Prison.
This facility hosts on average 150 women. The facility also caters for up to 15 children of ages 0 to 4 years who because of their young age cannot be separated from their mothers.
The ladies at the facility are either in remand with cases ongoing in the courts or are convicted and serving both short (up to 6 months) and long term (6 months and above) sentences.
We were received by the security officer and other officers on duty. We got to give a word of encouragement to the ladies, who entertained us with songs. Club members then served sodas, biscuits and milk to the ladies and children.
Club members were also given a tour of the entire facility and were very impressed with the cleanliness. We salute the officers-in-charge of the facility.
Other items that we donated included:
Diapers, Petroleum jelly, Coconut oil, Drinking bottled water, Bathing soap, Bar soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes and Toilet paper.
